Silverthorne Fence Mural & Sculpture
SILVERTHORNE FENCE - MURAL & SCULPTURE
This public art project is my longest to date, spanning an entire city block! Measuring roughly 275’ long by 8’ tall, this mural/sculpture is located on the 3rd street fence in downtown Silverthorne, Colorado. Created on the outside of the town’s Public Works department, the design highlights key operations such as managing and supplying water, electricity, and community infrastructure.
This design explores these themes of industrial connectivity while also speaking in broader terms of natural elemental forces. With water and fire being the main focus, I am exploring the micro and macro manifestations of these forces: some examples include atmospheric electricity, neural electricity, mechanical circuitry, atomic energy, cellular activity, molecular bonds, hydroelectricity, and kinetic energy.
Zooming out further, you will see this design also explores the seven universal principles of Hermetism: Mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, gender, rhythm, as well as cause & effect. Prominent examples include the red & blue color scheme, the elements of fire and water, masculine and feminine energy, mechanical and organic, thought and feeling, action and rest, cathodes and anodes, and the complementary nature of these oppositional forces.
The design also features sculptural elements that rotate in the wind, gears and cogs that rotate with human interaction, and panels of colored acrylic that filter and refract natural light coming through the fence - reinforcing the aforementioned themes.
